Screens

Retractable Centor screens and shades for big sliding and folding doors, and new or rescreened screens for every window in the house.

The big door problem

The best thing about a multi-slide or folding door is that the whole wall opens. The worst thing is what happens in July when it does. A standard screen was never built for an opening twelve or twenty feet wide, so most big doors in this valley get one of three bad answers: a pleated screen that chops up the view, a fixed panel that defeats the point of the door, or nothing, and the bugs come in with the breeze.

Centor solved this. Their screens and shades are built into the frame of the opening, so they disappear completely when you do not need them and pull across with one hand when you do. No pleats, no panels, nothing standing in the view.

We are a Centor dealer, and large sliding and folding door systems are exactly where we use them.

What Centor makes

S4 Screen and Shade. Built for large doors, up to 157 1/2 inches high and 354 13/16 inches wide. Insect screen, shade, or both in the same frame. This is the system for a multi-slide or bifold that opens a whole wall.

S4 Corner. For the post-less corner openings that are becoming common on contemporary houses here. Two screens or shades meet at the 90 degree corner, so the corner can open fully and still be screened.

S2 Insect Screen. The same idea for smaller openings up to 157 1/2 inches, single doors and windows included. It fits new and existing doors and windows, inside or outside the opening.

Across the range: the screen glides on load-balancing hardware and stops wherever you leave it, it operates with one hand from any height, and it retracts into the frame when not in use, which also protects the mesh in a place where screens get used for four months and stored for eight. Frames are aluminum in standard or custom colors, and S4 systems fitted inside are also available in Douglas fir, mahogany or white oak veneer.

Mesh comes in a standard weave and a tight weave for the smallest insects. Shades come in light-filtering, block-out and sun-filtering fabrics, which on a west-facing glass wall at this elevation is not a luxury.

How a Centor screen gets priced and fitted

Why is there no price list?

Because every Centor system is made to order for one opening. The door it pairs with, whether it sits inside or outside, screen or shade or both, the fabric, the finish, and how the frame builds into the wall all change the number. Tyler or Jedd price each one from the details of your door, so call the shop and ask for either of them.

When should we talk about it?

Before the door is ordered, ideally. The screen frame is designed to build into the opening, so the cleanest result comes from planning the screen and the door together. We can add Centor to an existing door too, but earlier is better and cheaper.

Does it work with the doors you sell?

Yes. Centor screens and shades pair with folding, sliding and double-swing doors and with windows, from any manufacturer. They pair with the Kolbe multi-slides and lift-and-slides we sell, and the screen is specified alongside the door package.

Can I see one work?

Call ahead and we will tell you what we can show you and where. The showroom is in the Scott Building at 110 Lindsay Circle in Ketchum, Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Screens for the rest of the house

Not every screen is a Centor. For windows, sliding patio doors and entry doors we build new screens to size, rescreen torn ones, and replace frames that are bent or past saving. That work is quick, priced by the size of the screen, and most of it can come straight to the shop at 118 Lewis Street.

Details and a ballpark price are on the screen repair page.

Bring the door details or the drawings and we will spec the screen or shade to the opening and price it. If the door package is still being planned, send the plans and we will include it.
