Glass Masters has been on Lewis Street in Ketchum since 1990. Not a branch, not a franchise, not a truck that comes over from somewhere else. The shop where the glass gets cut is at 118 Lewis Street, and it has been for 36 years.
That matters more for glass than for most trades. Glass is heavy, fragile and cut to order, so who fabricates it and how far it has to travel to reach you are real questions. Being in town means a Ketchum job is a short trip with a piece of glass that has not been across a state line.
Small screen work does not need anyone to drive out. If a screen is torn or the frame is bent, bring it to 118 Lewis Street and we will rescreen it or build a new frame. It is one of the quickest and cheapest things we do.
If a pane, a mirror or a shelf has already come out, bringing the piece means we can take the size off the glass itself rather than working from a measurement of the opening. Bring the hardware too, since hinges, clips and handles can often be reused.
The shop is on Lewis Street. The showroom is in the Scott Building at 110 Lindsay Circle, south entrance. Both are open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. If you are choosing hardware finishes or comparing glass, the showroom is the one you want, and it is worth calling first so someone is free to walk you through it.
Anything fitted to an opening, a shower enclosure, a window unit, a mirror going on a wall, we measure ourselves before ordering. Glass is made to size and cannot be trimmed once tempered, so the measurement has to be ours.
Ketchum sits right around 6,000 feet, and the glass problems here are the ones altitude and hard winters cause. Insulated units lose their seals and fog up. Cracks that appear in autumn spread over a winter of freezing and thawing. Mountain sun fades floors and furniture through untreated glass, and Low-E coatings are the answer to that rather than curtains.
None of that is unusual for us because it is all we have worked on for three and a half decades, in this valley, at this elevation. We are not guessing at what a Ketchum winter does to a window.
